Who drew the map

I'm Vishal. I'm not a coach — I teach a method.

I'm on a mission to reform career education — bringing scalable methods that teach the meta-skills to build career meaning, identity and flourishing. Since 2018 I've been a Careers Professor at world-leading business schools, walking mid-career changers through a process of authoring coherent career narratives. This map is a distillation of that research, and of the patterns I've documented across thousands of transformations.

How I got here

First, brand strategy

I took to writing and public speaking as a teenager, and built my career in brand strategy. Over fifteen-plus years I defined global strategies for Coca-Cola, Kellogg's, Danone and others. What I was really doing was helping brands distil the essential narrative that shaped aligned communication and execution.

Then, the pivot to speaking

During my MBA I found my second calling: helping individuals navigate career transitions by reframing their career narratives. I moved into executive education as a visiting lecturer, and have since guided 3,600+ transitions through a scalable process delivered at LBS, IMD, HEC Paris, IESE, Esade, ESMT Berlin, SDA Bocconi and Warwick.

The personal education

Alongside it, I pursued my own education in screenplay writing, speech writing, and above all mythology. I found that stories are tools for living better lives, not just telling taller tales. I dove into career psychology, narrative psychology, authorship, depth psychology and flourishing to test that hypothesis — and it held.

The mission

I saw how much of the knowledge and process from the research is absent from the wider careers discourse. Coaching, for all its righteous intent, is revealing its edges. In an era of meaning crisis — after the breakdown of the mythic worldview — teachable meta-skills are vital, so we can build meaning and identity in our own lives.

Why I'm not a coach

Coaching, for all its good intentions, is a flawed model — because it's non-transferable. It can help someone through a temporal crisis, but it doesn't equip them to build a meaningful career and navigate the constant flux that defines work today. That requires the transfer of knowledge and meta-competencies, so a person can build meaning and identity for themselves.

The future of work won't be solved with unscalable one-on-one interventions. It needs a scalable method — one that helps people build meaning, and contribute to our shared future with their deepest gifts.
